Requirements:

  • Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of the application as permitted by 65 ILCS 5/10-2.1-6. 
  • Applicants must be at least 21 years of age and under 35 years of age at the time of application and at the time the final eligibility list is posted; unless exempt from such age limitation as provided in the Fire and Police Commissioners Act. 
  • As one of the conditions for hire as a River Forest Police Officer is that all applicants must possess a minimum of 30 credit hours from an accredited College or University.
  • Applicants must submit proof that they have passed the Illinois Peace Officer Wellness Evaluation Report (POWER) Test valid within one year of the exam date.

STEP 1:

Submit an online application.

Please upload the following required documentation:

  • A copy of your Driver’s License
  • Birth Certificate
  • College Transcript(s) 
  • Power Test Card valid within one year of the exam date.

If you are unable to obtain a copy of the above documentation at the time of submitting your application, you will be required to bring the documentation with you on the day of testing. 

STEP 2:

Mandatory Orientation: If you're unable to attend in person, please contact rmorris@vrf.us for alternate arrangements. 

STEP 3:

Written Examination: The minimum passing grade is 70%.

STEP 4:

Applicants who successfully pass the written test will be notified of the exact time and location for their oral interview.

POWER TEST CERTIFICATE

If you need to obtain a POWER Test Card, we accept certifications from any vendor as long as they are certified to administer the test. The vendors below administer Power Test Certification classes.  Please contact them directly for more information:
