Available Position(s):

Police Records Clerk - Part Time

The Village of River Forest seeks qualified applications for the position of Part-Time Records Clerk for the River Forest Police Department.   

This position is responsible for specialized clerical work which includes processing subpoenas issued by the court, fulfilling law enforcement Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests, maintaining warrant files, preparing payroll records for police department employees, providing staff support at the Village’s local adjudication hearings, entering, extracting and analyzing data for a variety of reports and records, and performing tasks which require computer literacy.  This position also interacts heavily with the public, providing in-person, telephone, and e-mail assistance to customers. 

This position requires an individual with excellent attention to detail, integrity, strong interpersonal and communication skills, a dedication to providing excellent customer service, ability to maintain effective working relationships, sound judgment and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a law enforcement team environment.  A copy of the job description is available here.

Minimum Education, Experience & Training

  • High school degree or GED certificate required. 30-60 hours post-high school education in criminal justice, business, government, or an equivalent field desired.
  • LEADS certification preferred; successful candidate must be able to obtain LEADS certification within 30 days of employment.
  • At least two years of experience in municipal office, law enforcement agency, or emergency dispatch center is preferred.

Position Information

  • Position typically works 24 hours/week: Monday, Wednesday 10:30 am-4:30 pm; Thursday 12:30-4:30 pm; Friday 8 am-4:30 pm. Hours may be adjusted by the department; attendance at Monday evening and Wednesday morning adjudication hearings (typically two total per month) is mandatory. 
  • Wage range for this position is $22.64-29.69/hour with starting salary DOQ.

Maintenance Worker I/II

The Village of River Forest seeks qualified applicants for the position of Maintenance Worker I/II in the Public Works Department.  This position performs a full range of public works duties including the operation of construction equipment and trucks in the care, maintenance and repair of streets, sewers, the water distribution system, right-of-ways, facilities and the Village’s urban forest.  Additionally, this position performs snow removal and other duties associated with snow and ice control.   

This position requires availability for emergency duty during off hours in a variety of environmental conditions throughout the year as well as the ability to adapt to changing work assignments on a seasonal or daily basis.  The nature of the position will require the ability to exercise sound judgment, a desire to provide superior customer service and is to perform work according to standard safety procedures and regulations.

Minimum Qualifications (Education & Experience)

  • Minimum of a high school degree or GED
  • Previous experience in urban forestry maintenance, street repairs, construction, facility maintenance, sewer maintenance or a related field
  • Possession of a valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with air brakes endorsement or the ability to obtain a CDL within six (6) months of hire
  • Equivalent combination of training, experience or field certifications related to the work performed which produces the competencies desired for the position will be considered

Additional Preferred Qualifications (Education & Experience)

  • Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of a public water supply including the principals, practices, and chemical processes used in a potable water system is preferred
  • Knowledge of computer systems such as Microsoft Office products and SCADA systems is preferred
  • Possession of a Class C or Class D Illinois Public Water Operators License is preferred

Position Information

  • Normal work hours for this position are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.; 40 hours/week
  • The pay range for the Maintenance Worker I/II position is $24.78 to $31.48 per hour plus benefits

Seasonal Laborer Position

The Village of River Forest Public Works Department is seeking to fill a position of Seasonal Laborer.  This position will perform maintenance and repair of Village facilities and properties, assist full-time staff with daily maintenance tasks, work with a variety of tools, and lift equipment in excess of 50 lbs.

This position will work up to 40 hours per week and requires the ability to perform strenuous work in varying weather conditions.  Normal work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday thru Friday. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and possess a valid Illinois driver’s license.  Hourly rate for this seasonal position is $15.00 and is limited to (but not guaranteed) 400 hours.
