2018 Summer Engineering Intern

The Village of River Forest is now accepting applications for the part-time, seasonal position of Engineering Intern. 

General duties include conducting field inspections, gathering field data, surveying, contractor oversight, and project management - all of which are related to various infrastructure maintenance and improvement projects.  These projects may include sewer lining, paving of streets, alley reconstruction, replacement of sidewalk and curb/gutters, and water system improvements.  This position may also assist with data collection for the Village’s Geographic Information System (GIS) and perform office engineering work.

The ideal candidate will be currently pursuing a degree in civil engineering or construction management and have completed at least one academic year of college coursework.  Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and possess a valid Illinois driver’s license.  Computer skills with Microsoft Word and Excel are required. 

The hourly rate for this position is $15.00.  This position is for 40 hours per week (8:00 am - 4:30 pm M-F) and limited to, but not guaranteed, a total of 400 hours.  There may be an occasional need to start earlier than 8 am and/or work past 4:30 pm.

Administrative Assistant - Fire Department (Part Time)

The Village of River Forest seeks qualified applications for the newly created position of Part-Time Administrative Assistant for the Fire Department.  This position will have frequent contact with the public in the processing of routine and complex inquiries and will respond to Freedom of Information Act requests and subpoenas.  This position will also assist the Fire Chief with various routine and special administrative functions and processes such as updating policy and procedures manuals, purchasing, accounts payables and receivables including payroll and ambulance billing, data compilation and entry, reporting, preparation of correspondence and dissemination of informational materials to the public.

This position requires an individual with excellent attention to detail, strong interpersonal and communication skills necessary to provide excellent customer service and maintain effective working relationships, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a team environment.

Minimum Education, Experience & Training

  • High school degree or GED certificate.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of the fire service at a level normally acquired through one to three years of experience working in a Fire Department or closely related field preferred, or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides requisite knowledge, skills and abilities for job.

Position Information

  • Position typically works 24 hours/week during normal business hours (M-F 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.). Some flexible scheduling available, however, attendance on Fridays and regular/predictable attendance is required.
  • Hourly rate for this position is $23.58 to $34.30/hour. Starting rate DOQ.
