The Village Board is the legislative and policy-making body of the Village and includes the Village President and six Trustees. If you need to send them a comment or question, contact the Village Board.

  • The President and Trustees are elected to four-year terms and receive no compensation for serving in their roles. 
  • Board members serve staggered four-year terms, with elections occurring every two years.  
  • There also are a number of other Boards and Commissions within the Village with important responsibilities in decision-making for the wellbeing of the community. Click a Board or Commission from the menu on the right to see its description, members, and meetings. 
  • The Village President presides over Village Board meetings and appoints, with the consent of the Village Trustees, advisory committee members. The Village President only votes when they are required to break a tie.  
  • The Village Board entrusts day to day operations to professionally trained staff members, including Village Administrator, Police Chief, Fire Chief, Finance Director and Public Works Director. Staff implement Board policies and execute the vision of elected officials.
  • The Township, Park District, School Districts and Library are not managed by the Village. Each organization has its own elected Board that makes decisions regarding their respective operations.

Board and Commission meetings are published in the calendar below, and occur according to the officially approved Schedule of Public Meetings. Agendas and meeting minutes are posted on each meeting when available and archived in Agendas & Minutes

The Village of River Forest is always looking for volunteers to fill various boards and commissions that help our Village. If you or someone you know might be interested in getting involved, please complete an application to serve on a Board or Commission. All applications will remain confidential unless an applicant is appointed to a Board or Commission.

As Village President, I want to tap into the great wealth of talented people who live in River Forest to serve on a Village Board or Commission. Your insights, experience and expertise can help us govern River Forest more effectively and efficiently. We need you and want you to volunteer to serve on the Village's Boards and Commissions. Appointments will be purely merit-based; you don't need to know me or anybody else on the Village Board to be appointed.
