The Union Pacific Railroad will be continuing construction near the Des Plaines River for at least the next two months. During this time, Union Pacific has closed 1st Avenue between Lake Street and Washington Boulevard. Due to this closure, IDOT has rerouted 1st Avenue north and southbound traffic along Roosevelt Road and North Avenue to Harlem Avenue. While these detour routes were intended to direct traffic to other IDOT maintained roads, there will likely be some increase in vehicular traffic through River Forest streets during this time. Please exercise caution in and around these areas and obey all signals and signage.
Due to congestion caused by the 1st Avenue road closure, the following traffic enforcement will be in place during morning rush-hour ( 7-8:15 AM) and evening rush-hour (4-5:30 PM):
- No Left Turn for westbound Lake from northbound Thatcher.
- No Left Turn for westbound Central from northbound Thatcher.
- No Left Turn for eastbound Hawthorne from southbound Thatcher.
Officers will be in the area to monitor traffic.
