Village Named Green Power Community by EPA

January, 24, 2022

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently designated the Village of River Forest as a Green Power Community. River Forest residents, businesses, and municipal operations collectively use more than 33 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of green power annually. This is enough green power to meet 59% of the community-wide electricity use. The green power accomplishment is achieved through the Village’s green electric aggregation program, which supports clean, renewable energy development through the acquisition of certified Renewable Energy Certificates (REC’s) from wind farms in the Midwest.

By implementing this program, as well as endorsing Community Solar, the Village is helping to lead the transition to a clean energy future. According to the EPA, River Forest’s community-wide green power use is equivalent to the electricity use of more than 3,000 average American homes annually.
