What Happened?
Three residential burglaries have been reported recently to the River Forest Police Department. The offenders forced entry to homes through locked doors or windows. The incidents occurred in the area between Augusta Street and North Avenue, and between Thatcher Avenue and Jackson Avenue. The events have occurred between the hours of 5:00 PM and 11:00 PM at homes with no alarms or cameras utilized. The offenders have targeted jewelry and cash.
What Can You Do to Protect Your Property?
The River Forest Police Department is investigating these incidents and have several active leads. Additional patrols of both uniformed and plainclothes officers have been assigned in the area. Residents are asked to please follow these tips to help protect your homes and property:
- Use your residential alarm system, if you have one.
- Light up the area—proximity sensor lights are a good energy-saving option.
- Make your home look occupied with indoor lighting and timers.
- Install video surveillance and video doorbell systems.
- Lock all outside doors and windows before you leave your home.
- Keep your garage doors closed and locked.
