A Special E-News Message from the Village President, Catherine M. Adduci
February 1, 2021
Dear River Forest Residents,
Winter Storm
It looks like this winter storm is now behind us. As we begin the week, please continue to keep our community safe. Be sure to:
- Clear sidewalks of snow and ice.
- Clear fire hydrants - 3ft clearance around fire hydrants helps ensure they are visible and accessible.
- Drive carefully - if you must go out, please drive carefully. Even when a road may look clear, be alert for slick conditions and black ice.
- If you’d like to volunteer to assist seniors with digging out their vehicles, please email rfseniorhelp@gmail.com.
For more, visit vrf.us/Snow.
Overnight Parking Ban Lifted
Thank you for your cooperation during the snow event. The overnight parking ban is now lifted. Anyone wishing to park on Village streets between 2AM and 6AM must complete an overnight parking request by clicking here.

OPRFHS Board of Education Superintendent Search Survey
The Oak Park and River Forest High School Board of Education has initiated its search for a new superintendent of schools. The Board of Education is completing a survey and wants to hear residents’ thoughts about: the strengths of our high schools and communities, the challenges the district is currently facing, what the new leader’s priorities should be, and what professional and personal characteristics the next superintendent should have.
To assist in this important process, the Board of Education has retained the services of the firm Hazard, Young, Attea & Associates (HYA). HYA specializes in assisting boards with the identification and selection of candidates after hearing from all stakeholder groups in the community. To this end, working with HYA, the OPRFHS Board of Education has developed a short survey that is being sent district wide and respectfully requests that River Forest residents complete it. The survey takes under 10 minutes and should be completed by Friday, February 12.
- Click here to access the Superintendent Search Survey in English.
- Click here to access the Superintendent Search Survey in Spanish.
The Board of Education welcomes and appreciates your input and looks forward to your thoughtful feedback in the survey. HYA will compile all of the feedback and prepare a Leadership Profile Report that will be presented to the School Board and community in late February.
Infant Welfare Society Share the Love Community Valentine Project
This time of year, and especially now as we continue to battle the pandemic, it can feel downright dreary. The Infant Welfare Society is hoping to spark warm feelings and lift spirits with Share The Love: A Community Valentine Project.
The idea is simple: personalize a sign for your yard or window sharing a message of love/joy/pride for and with our community! Another twist: gift that sign to a neighbor, friend or local business owner who has helped you out in the last year.
Want to buy a cute heart-shaped yard sign to decorate? The Infant Welfare Society has got you covered! OPRF Infant Welfare Society Valentine Yard Sign kits can be purchased for $20. Kits include 26" corrugated plastic heart sign, stake and waterproof marker.
Order online and an IWS member will deliver to you for free in a 5-mile radius of Oak Park, or you can select to pick-up at one of their four retail partners! You can also buy directly at these locations - cash only, please. $10 of each kit will help support primary care services at the IWS Children’s Clinic at 320 Lake Street in Oak Park.
Take photos of your decorated sign and share on Facebook, Twitter, or tag IWS on Instagram! Be sure to use the hashtags #oprfiws and #sharethelove!
Thanks for helping Share the Love!
Sincerely,
Catherine M. Adduci, Village President
