Canadian National Railway to Run

January, 12, 2018

The Canadian National Railway (CN) has informed the Village that they will be running engines/locomotives on the CN line beginning as early as tomorrow, Saturday, January 13, 2018.

These runs may contain empty rail cars as part of their normal due diligence to ensure their rail line remains an active line. Please remember that although not currently used, the CN line is still considered an active rail line. It is against the law to walk on the tracks or on railroad property. Please obey all warning signals at the at-grade crossings. This work is expected to start this weekend and carry into next week.

Canadian National has indicated to the Village that this work is not part of any immediate plans to use the rail line on a regular basis. The Canadian National rail line runs though River Forest from Madison Street (between Park and Forest) heading due north until it reaches Iowa Street at which point it turns northwest and crosses at grade at Forest, Augusta, Keystone and finally Thatcher before heading through the Forest Preserves and over the Des Plaines River.
