A Special E-News Message from the Village President, Catherine Adduci
August 20, 2020
Dear River Forest Residents,
Back to School During COVID-19
As children in the community head back to school, I encourage everyone to remain patient during the unprecedented nature of remote learning. Now is the time for all of us to come together to help our River Forest children learn safely.
Please continue the safe practices we’ve all become accustomed to as we move into the fall - wear face coverings, practice social distancing and wash your hands. It is important that we all do our part to be good neighbors and work together to set a good example for others as we all work to play, learn and live safely.
Yesterday the Village held a webinar with internet service providers to present their offerings to residents due to the anticipated need to continue to work and learn safely from home. Click here to view the webinar presentation.
It Only Works If You Wear It
The Village is proud to collaborate with the River Forest Park District, District 90, River Forest Public Library, and the River Forest Township in promoting the All In Illinois “It Only Works If You Wear It” campaign. We hope you will appreciate these reminders and those on the signs around town. Every day we do things that keep us safe, like buckling a seat belt or putting on a bike helmet. But if we forget, or don’t do them (even once), we put ourselves and others at risk. A mask is no different. It only works if you wear it. So always wear a mask when you’re out in public to protect yourself and others.
Rental Assistance Deadline Extension
Governor Pritzker announced the Illinois Housing Development Authority (IHDA) has extended the deadline for Illinois renters to apply for aid at era.ihda.org by one week to noon on August 28 due to those impacted by the storms last Monday. In addition, landlords will be given an additional two days, through August 30, to complete their portion of the application. The Emergency Rental Assistance program provides $5,000 to eligible tenants who have seen their household income decline as a result of the COVID-19. Click here to read the press release.
Wabi Sabi Film Festival
Tomorrow, August 21 at 10am, the Wabi Sabi Film Festival is offering a free virtual screening via Zoom of the film Gen Silent, which asks six LGBT seniors if they will hide their lives to survive. The filmmakers will join the event on Zoom following the movie to answer questions and have a conversation about the film. Click here for more information and to register.
Apply Online to Vote By Mail
Voting by mail is convenient, saves time, and allows you to make your choices in the November 3, 2020 Presidential Election from the comfort of your home. You can apply online for a Vote By Mail ballot today!
When you apply online to Vote By Mail, the Cook County Clerk's office will send you emails:

Census
We know life is busy, but nearly 1 in 5 River Forest households are yet to complete the Census. You still have time to Be Counted! The Census is safe and secure, quick and easy, and matters for our community. If you haven’t filled out your census response yet, there’s still time to do so online, by phone or by mail. This month, Census takers will begin visiting homes that have not responded -- click here for more information on what to expect. Visit my2020census.gov to complete your census today!
Sincerely,
Catherine Adduci, Village President
