A Special E-News Message from the Village President, Catherine Adduci
Community Update
August 11, 2020
Dear River Forest Residents,
I am writing to you for your support and assistance during these uncertain times.
Safety is our Number One Priority
Sunday night, there was additional civil unrest in the City of Chicago which included widespread looting. At this time, there have been no direct threats towards the Village of River Forest. However, our police department continues to analyze all incoming intelligence data, including information coming through our mutual aid criminal justice partners. As a precautionary measure, the River Forest Police Department has deployed the appropriate resources and equipment to respond to any critical incident. Also, the River Forest Police Department belongs to several law enforcement mutual aid networks that can ask for additional assistance if warranted.
During situations such as these, rumors can spread quickly, particularly on social media, and create fear. Residents are asked to remain calm and not be drawn into unsubstantiated rumors that tend to gain traction during these challenging times. For official and up-to-date information, please check our website, Facebook, Instagram, and E-News.
I ask for your cooperation and please remember safety is our number one priority for our Village. Thank you for your continued support.
ComEd Outages
According to ComEd, approximately 650 River Forest customers are without power. ComEd crews will work to restore all customers as quickly as possible. For updated information, including numbers of outages, estimated restoration times or to report an outage, please view the ComEd Outage Status map.
Storm Damage
The Village’s Public Works team is currently addressing storm damage throughout the community. They are moving through the community from south to north, prioritizing roadway and driveway access. Limbs in the parkways will be addressed after all roadways and driveways have been cleared. There are still tree limbs that may be damaged and hanging so residents are urged to exercise caution.
For the next two weeks, residents may place fallen tree limbs and branches that are four inches or greater in diameter, regardless of length, in the parkway to be collected by Village crews. All smaller materials (less than four inches in diameter) should be disposed of in the regular yard waste program utilizing yard waste bags or brush tags. Do not place these materials in the street.
If it is not practical to prepare materials for collection under the regular yard waste program, residents may contact a tree care company or waste disposal company to arrange for a special collection of the material. All contractors must be licensed and bonded with the Village of River Forest.
Watch the Weather
Use a mobile app resource or website such as weather.com, the National Weather Service, the Chicago Tribune, or any other weather radar provider to stay in the know and stay prepared.
Thank you,
Catherine Adduci
