Just prior to noon today, River Forest Police Units responded to a Suspicious Person call on the 1400 block of Jackson. The complainant had observed a black male knock on her front door, then walk up her driveway, and eventually began looking into the rear window of the house. The subject fled the area in a silver vehicle. Shortly after, a River Forest Tactical Unit spotted a subject that matched the suspicious person on the 1400 block of Ashland. The subject was walking down a driveway and attempting to enter a silver Volkswagen sedan with tinted windows, bearing Illinois plate # Z980535. The officer was able to place the subject into custody but the vehicle/driver refused the officer’s commands to exit the car, subsequently fleeing the area. The fleeing vehicle was spotted again by River Forest units and another law enforcement agency but due to the vehicle driving recklessly, the driver was able to elude police units in the area of Washington and 1st Ave. These subjects may be responsible for a Residential Burglary that had occurred in Oak Park less than an hour earlier. The subject in custody was found to be in possession of miscellaneous jewelry.
At this time, the investigation is ongoing with River Forest Detectives conducting interviews and working with a Forensic Expert to examine evidence obtained during last week’s two Residential Burglary incidents. We would ask residents to remain vigilant, and continue to lock doors/windows and utilize their alarm/camera security systems. As noted in today’s events, if you see suspicious activity call 911 immediately.
