Offender Charged with Attempted Murder of a Police Officer and Aggravated Reckless Discharge of a Firearm
River Forest, IL – In the early morning hours of December 4, 2024, Riverside Police stopped a vehicle for traffic offenses in the Village of Riverside. The driver was observed retrieving a firearm during the stop and fled from police. A short time later, Forest Park Police observed the same vehicle and attempted a traffic stop but fled before officers could make contact with the driver. The vehicle fled into River Forest, left the roadway, and struck a business in the 300 block of Lathrop at approximately 3:07AM.
The offender, now known as Andres D. Adan, 20, of the 15000 block of Willard Avenue, Harvey, Illinois, exited the vehicle and entered the unoccupied business. Police surrounded the area and directed the offender to exit the building. Adan intentionally fired a handgun from inside the business at a River Forest Police Officer. A short time later, Adan surrendered to police without further incident and was taken into custody by River Forest Police with the assistance of Forest Park, Oak Park, and Riverside Police.
Andres D. Adan was charged with Attempted First-Degree Murder and Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm along with additional traffic offenses in the River Forest incident. Adan attended a detention hearing today and was remanded to stay in custody. Adan was also charged with Aggravated Fleeing and Eluding and other traffic offenses in the Riverside and Forest Park incidents.
Chief James O'Shea stated, “We commend newly sworn in Cook County State's Attorney Eileen O'Neill Burke for taking violent gun offenders off the streets, especially those who target law enforcement officers. The River Forest community as a whole supports their Police Officers and will not tolerate individuals who attempt to murder or injure them.”
