The Union Pacific Railroad is scheduled to conduct construction near the Des Plaines River for approximately one week beginning September 24, 2019. During this time, Union Pacific will close 1st Avenue between Lake Street and Washington Boulevard. Due to this closure, IDOT has rerouted 1st Avenue north and southbound traffic along Roosevelt Road and North Avenue to Harlem Avenue. While these detour routes are intended to direct traffic to other IDOT maintained roads, there will likely be an increase in vehicular traffic through River Forest streets during this time. Please exercise caution in and around these areas and obey all signals and signage.
Due to congestion caused by the 1st Avenue road closure, the following traffic enforcement will be in place:
- No Left Turn from northbound Thatcher to westbound Lake
- No Left Turn from northbound Thatcher to westbound Central
- No Left Turn from southbound Thatcher to eastbound Hawthorne
Officers will be in the area to monitor traffic.
