Crime Alert - River Forest Police Respond to Attempted Carjacking

On January 7th, 2019, at 5:48pm, a resident was in their car in their driveway in the 500 block of Auvergne Place (near Lake Street) when a subject approached the driver-side door, pointed a handgun at the victim, and pulled on the door handle.  The subject was described as an unknown male, approximately 5’9”, wearing a full black “ski mask”, white hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans with tears in the legs, and white gym shoes.  The subject then ran northbound on Auvergne.  The victim immediately called 911 and River Forest units searched the area but did not locate the subject.

If you are the victim of a carjacking, the safety of you and your passengers is the priority.  Do not argue or fight with the carjacker.  Leave the car and your belongings and call 911 immediately if your phone is on your person.  If you can gather a description of the vehicle, offenders or suspects, please relay that information to the 911 dispatcher.  But remember, your safety and the safety of your passengers come first!
