On Wednesday, July 25, 2018, the River Forest Police Department took part in the 3rd Annual Illinois Speed Awareness Day Campaign. The mission of this event was “to promote education, conduct enforcement, and to support continued engineering advances to heighten public awareness of the dangers of excessive speed which will lead to the prevention of collisions, deaths and injuries.”

During the 24-hour special enforcement period on July 25, 2018, the River Forest Police Department recorded the following traffic enforcement related data:
- 19 Speeding Citations – 6 Speeding Warnings
- 1 Speeding Citation for 26-34 MPH over the limit
- 1 Speeding Arrest for more than 35 MPH over the limit. (The offender in this case was tracked on radar traveling 70 MPH in a 30 MPH zone on North Ave.)
- 1 Failure to Wear a Seatbelt Citation
- 1 Driving While License Suspended Arrest
- 26 Other Minor Traffic Violation Citations – 15 Warnings for Other Minor Traffic Violations
- 49 Total Citations Written – 15 Total Warnings
Illinois Speed Awareness Day was founded by the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police Traffic Safety
Committee (ILACP) and in partnership with the Families Against Chronic Excessive Speeding (FACES4).
