Overnight Parking requests
In order to park during such time, residents must receive approval from the Village:
-
Residents must submit the waiver prior to 2 am. Normally, requests after this time will not be approved. If there is an extraordinary situation the resident will have to contact the on-duty Police supervisor (by request) through the non-emergency phone number at 708-366-7125.
-
Ordinarily, permission to park all night will not be given more than three times in any thirty-day period. Permission to park more than three times in any thirty-day period may be given for unusual circumstances, but only by a Police Department command officer.
The Village may lift the overnight parking ban for certain holidays, such as Thanksgiving.
Vacation Watch Program
-
Please submit your requests at least a week prior to your absence.
-
The Vacation Watch program is not intended for periods of time greater than 90 days or homes for sale. IF you will be one more than 90 days, you must re-submit your Vacation Watch at the end of the 90 day period.
Additional Vacation Safety Measures
-
Notify a friend, relative or trusted neighbor that you'll be away and leave emergency phone numbers with them.
-
Ensure your doors, windows and gates are locked when you leave.
-
Manually lock your garage door from the inside and disengage your electronic device, this eliminates the possibility of thieves entering with garage door decoders.
-
Stop your mail and your newspaper deliveries or have a friend, relative or trusted neighbor bring it in for you daily.
-
Utilize indoor lights and smart home features on automatic timers - this gives the illusion someone is home.
-
Arrange for lawncare service while you're away.
Keyholder Program
In the event of an emergency, it may become necessary for the River Forest Police and Fire Department to reach out to a property owner. Please ensure the contact information on file with the Village is correct by completing an online form.
The more information you provide, the better we can serve our residents. By selecting the “residence has surveillance cameras” button, you are informing the River Forest Police Department that you are willing to provide access to your camera footage. This can help assist the Police Department if you or one of your neighbors becomes the victim of a crime.
Please reach out to Officer Megan Drake at 708-714-3543 or mdrake@vrf.us if you have any questions regarding the Keyholder program.
**The Village of River Forest does not share any of your personal information**
Bicycle Registration
The Village provides bicycle registration stickers to all residents at no charge, and do not need to be renewed. By registering your bicycle with the River Forest Police Department, you can assist in the recovery of your bike if it is lost or stolen. You can also submit a picture of your bicycle which can further assist the Police Department.
Please include as much information as possible, as this will assist in the recovery of your bike. This includes your contact information (name, email, phone number, address), serial number and the make and model of the bicycle.
Once your request is received, a license sticker will be mailed to you. The license should be displayed on the bike frame, below the saddle post.
Please remember to lock your bike, obey traffic laws and always wear a helmet. Please call the River Forest Police Department at 708-714-3543 with any questions.
