The Village of River Forest has 40 miles of water mains and 33.1 miles of sanitary sewers. There are annual projects specifically designed for improving our Water & Sewer infrastructure. Additional information can be found on the Construction & Engineering page.
The Village has implemented a systematic approach to keep storm water drains clean in accordance with a five-year cycle - view the Cleaning Map. The crew first removes gutter debris from storm water basins in the entire section for that cycle and then completes sewer main root cutting in the same section.
The Village of River Forest is also committed to managing stormwater and reducing flooding where possible. To that end, the Village has an annual sewer maintenance program, regularly studies long-term capital improvements, encourages environmental best practices and has implemented resident assistance programs to reduce flooding of individual homes. Additional information regarding these studies, the DesPlaines River, Combined Sewer Overflows and the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District (MWRD) can be seen on the Flood Protection Studies page and on the MWRD's website.
Review the Flooding & Flood prevention guide that covers resident assistance programs and tips to reduce flooding of individual homes.
